LightLeap Orion — What's New

PROD Release date: September 2026
PROD Release date: October 2026

Thank you for being a LightLeap customer. This update brings a refreshed look, a simpler fraud-review workflow, and stronger identity verification to your LightLeap Orion environment.

Nothing you rely on goes away — your data, your saved work, and your sign-ins all continue to work. A few screens have moved to make the product simpler (details below), and no action is required on your part.

1. A brand-new look and feel

The entire Orion interface has been redesigned into one consistent, modern experience — the same polished navy/teal visual language now runs across every screen:

  • The dashboard, Applications, Settings, Projects, the sidebar, and every review screen now share one clean, professional design.

  • A dark mode is available, and the whole interface meets the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard (keyboard navigation, color contrast, screen-reader labels).

  • The sign-in screen is cleaner and more focused.

What this means for you: the product feels like one cohesive system instead of a set of separate screens — easier to learn, easier to train new staff on.

2. A simpler fraud-review workflow

One place to review every application

The separate "ID Verification" tab has been removed — identity verification is now built directly into the main Applications screen. You no longer switch back and forth between two lists to see the full picture of an applicant; everything lives in one place.

You can also search by multiple tags at once — Student ID, APP ID, CCC ID, name, or email — to pull up several applicants in a single filtered view (add a term, press Enter, repeat; remove any tag individually). The filter even survives a page reload and applies to your exported report.

One clear status for every application — "Judicial Status"

Fraud and identity signals are now combined into a single, easy-to-read status on your Applications list:

  • Cleared, Flagged, Escalated, or Pending — shown in one unified Judicial Status column (it replaces the old separate fraud and ID-verification indicators).

  • One filter matches that status, so your team can jump straight to the cases that need attention.

  • Click any status to open the full review — the detailed decision breakdown and the identity-verification details are both one click away.

The Judicial Panel — several expert "judges" decide together

Instead of relying on a single score, each application can now be reviewed by a panel of independent "judges" that each weigh in, and their opinions are combined into one clear verdict. Think of it as a review board rather than a lone decision:

  • The panel can include the LightLeap fraud model, one or more identity and government-ID verification checks, and a dedicated identity-verification model — each casting its own vote.

  • You choose how the panel decides — require unanimous agreement, go with the majority, or give each judge a weight and set the threshold — so the policy matches your institution's risk tolerance.

  • The combined result is the single Judicial Status you see on the Applications list: Cleared, Flagged, Escalated, or Pending.

  • When the judges don't agree (a split decision), the case is Escalated to a human instead of being forced into an automatic answer.

  • When a case is still waiting on an outside check, it shows clearly as Pending — the panel finalizes the judges that have voted, but won't pretend a pending check already came back. As soon as the awaited result arrives, the panel re-decides automatically.

  • A judge whose check failed/errored is clearly marked, and simply steps aside from that vote (it never silently blocks a case) — so a reviewer always knows a check didn't complete.

  • The whole panel is configured per model on its own Judicial Panel settings page, so different application types can have different review boards.

Your reviewers stay in control

When a staff member manually marks an application as Fraud or Not Fraud, that decision overrides the panel, is clearly labeled as a reviewer override, and stays in place until the case is reviewed again.

3. Stronger, friendlier identity verification

  • Captured ID photos and document details now appear directly in the review screen — no more hunting across systems; the applicant's submitted ID and its verification results are right there.

  • Minor (under-18) verification is now supported, including a guardian-consent email flow — available on request for institutions that need it.

  • Multiple verification requests per applicant, with the ability to re-request or run verification in bulk.

  • Clearer expiry reminders — verification emails show how long a link stays valid, with a live countdown, and reminders are sent on a schedule you configure.

  • One unified Review Log brings prediction, hold, and identity-verification activity together in a single, easy-to-follow timeline — you can click a model to filter the history to just that model.

  • Bulk ID-verification upload (for admins) with a review step that shows which uploaded records matched before anything is sent.

4. A better day-to-day review experience

  • Bulk editing of fraud status across many applications at once.

  • More flexible filtering — filter by prediction type (multi-select), by college/term (including a "None" option), and by your own fraud rules.

  • Richer review summaries, including a Fraud Vectors overview that explains the signals behind a decision.

Clearer fraud-rule transparency on every review

When you open a review, matched signals are now shown as clear, separate cards:

  • Threat Intelligence maintained by LightLeapAI (scope-tagged Global — seen across all institutions — vs Institution — seen within your institution) is kept distinct from your institution's own Fraud Rules (each shown with an Allow / Block badge and the exact matched fields).

  • The rule builder now lets you pick the condition type (Number / String / Date) on any field, so you can express rules like "born after a date" or "enrolled before a date" on any date field — not just birthdate.

  • When a prediction is flipped by a fraud rule, the original fraud percentage is preserved and shown, for full transparency into why a decision changed.

  • A combined Applications + Identity Verification report you can export to Excel (two sheets — applications with their verification results, plus a full verification list for a time window you choose).

  • Faster, more reliable application lists — large tenants load and filter more quickly.

5. The public applicant screener & guest experience

Prospective users can try fraud screening instantly — no account required — and seamlessly become a customer when they're ready.

Try it instantly, no signup

  • A redesigned landing page states the value up front and leads to a clean screening page with one clear call to action.

  • Screen a single applicant or upload a CSV of up to 100 and instantly see which are flagged as potential fraud.

  • Before uploading, you see the exact columns your file needs, so you avoid "missing column" errors.

  • Confirm your email with a one-time code before seeing results — a quick, secure check with no account signup required to try it.

  • Each applicant gets a clean Fraud / Not Fraud verdict, and you can download the scored file right from the results.

Honest, trustworthy results

  • "Run screening again" stays disabled until you actually change a field, so you never accidentally re-run identical input; editing a field re-arms it and clears any error.

  • Clear, honest messages when a screening can't complete ("please check the field format," or a support prompt) — never a misleading or fabricated result.

  • Applicants that can't be scored are shown as Pending (not a misleading 0%), so you know to fix the underlying data.

  • A clean "nothing to verify" result (not an error) when all your applicants are clean — your records are still saved for review.

Identity verification, right in the screener

  • Send flagged applicants through identity verification and see the end-to-end result in-app, choosing from multiple verification methods (including government-ID checks).

  • Every verification method shows an honest "Live / Demo" badge, so you always know whether a result is real or a demonstration.

  • Flagged applicants are reliably sent for verification regardless of how the data was entered — a real fraud flag is never silently dropped.

6. A guided signup & onboarding

Becoming a customer is now a smooth, guided experience:

  • A signup wizard walks you through choosing your customer ID, previewing your trial data, and picking a plan with secure checkout.

  • Every new account comes with a 1-month trial that's active immediately.

  • The applicants you just screened as a guest are carried into your new workspace — your results are waiting for you after signup, with full decision detail (risk factors, a plain-language summary, and threat-intelligence insights), identical to records created inside the product.

  • Once onboarded, applicants your system flags as high-risk can be automatically sent for identity verification — while the final approve/reject stays a deliberate human decision.

Returning users

  • If you already have a workspace, verifying your email by one-time code signs you straight back in — no second password, no duplicate account.

  • Your newly screened applicants land in the workspace you already own, exactly where you expect them.

  • Identity-verification results attach to the same application record as the original screening, so each applicant is a single row — not two.

  • First-time invited users are activated when they set their password, so they can sign in right away.

7. Sign-in and reliability

  • A more reliable single sign-on (SSO) experience — we resolved an issue that could occasionally interrupt sign-in across LightLeap products.

  • Role-based views so each team member sees exactly what their role allows.

  • Behind-the-scenes reliability and performance improvements so the service stays responsive.
